The Office of Grants and Contracts has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Contracts Specialist position.

Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support of research activities. Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre-award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.

At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

Position Emphasis
Contract negotiation for Grants and Contracts
    Serve as a contracts specialist for the Office of Grants and Contracts located on the Anschutz Medical campus. Review sponsored program agreements. Develop and draft contracts, ensuring compliance with University, state, and federal policies and regulations. Review contract budgets for accuracy. Review confidentiality agreements.
Subcontract negotiation for Grants and Contracts:
    Draft subcontracts and amendments; prepare subcontract revisions; review prime award documentation; respond to e-mails received in the subcontracts e-mail portal; review SPO requests in CU Marketplace and determine appropriate course of action; track subcontracts in subcontracts database.
Serve as a liaison with Sponsors/Subcontractors
    Serve as a liaison between the Sponsor/Subcontractor and University related to contracts and subcontracts.
Assist the Director, Contracts Manager and other Office Managers
    Assistance is provided by attending meetings, researching issues, and drafting reports. Assist with special projects as assigned for other sections of the office, including PreAward, PostAward, sponsored programs accounting, and administration.
Special Projects
    Work on special projects as assigned with the unit.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, finance, accounting, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution 
  • One year of professional level experience negotiating fixed price and/or cost reimbursable contracts, or similar
Substitution
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
A Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school or Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Health (MPH), or Master of Public Administration (MPA) from an accredited institution.Experience with sponsored programsExperience in higher education grants and contracts administrationExperience reviewing and negotiating sponsored research agreements and/or clinical trial agreementsCompetencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
