This Custodian will fulfill the basic purpose of the work unit by cleaning and disinfecting high contact surface areas, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and shampooing floors, or by removing water from steps and entrances, coordinate trash/compost and recycling removal. This position is responsible for reporting and creating work orders for maintenance issues such as broken lights, clogged drains, etc. Maintains chemical storerooms, ensures proper storage practicesWho We AreHousing & Dining Services exists to provide 3.3 million meals per year for the students, staff, faculty, and guests of the university. We are committed to providing options and information to all of our guests with dietary restrictions and allergens, including vegan, vegetarian, kosher and Halal choices, supported by a strong allergen awareness program called A9 ® Identified.What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeCleaning, Vacuuming and Recycle/Composting
  • Empty and remove the contents of all compost, trash, and recycling receptacles and properly dispose of trash and/or recyclable materials in the appropriate containers.
  • Dust and/or wash windowsills, blinds, woodwork, doors, clean elevator walls and control panels.
  • Dust overhead pipes, light fixtures and all unobstructed horizontal and vertical surfaces. Wash door glass, Dust all furniture, fixtures, and equipment as needed.
  • Ensure that all reusable hand towels are the inappropriate container for pick up from linen company and that clean linen are distributed.
  • Ensure all coolers and freezers are clean and sanitized.
  • Schedule cleaning during appropriate times.
  • Perform detail cleaning of all trash, compost, recycling receptacles including dock compost dumpster daily or as needed.
  • Schedule and perform cleaning of all dry goods storerooms.
  • Use backpack vacuum to thoroughly clean all four dining floor surfaces and stairwells and vacuum upholstery as needed.
  • Vacuum entryway mats and elevator door tracks daily.
  • Schedule all daily cleaning of hard surface floors with a floor scrubber.
  • Spot clean all carpeted areas daily based on need. Close all open windows, turn off lights and close and lock doors.
  • Assist with the setup and break down of special events as directed.

Chemical and Sanitation
  • Perform titrate tests weekly on all chemical sanitation dispensers.
  • Ensure all mop sinks are fully stocked with appropriate chemicals daily and are dispensing at the correct concentration.
  • Ensure all spray bottles are labeled appropriately and stored correctly.
  • Guarantee that all safety data sheets are present and in designated locations and updated. Inspect and ensure all hand sinks are stocked daily ensuring that they are clean with hand towels, soap and nail brushes as well as a compost bin for dirty towels.
  • Ensure that appropriate chemicals are used for specific tasks.

Equipment Maintenance
  • Clean and perform minor maintenance on all custodial equipment to keep it in proper working order.
  • Report all equipment needing repairs to the supervisor.
  • Empty and clean all vacuums and buckets daily.
  • Keep the custodial workstation clean and organized.
  • Maintain the custodial workstation in a safe manner, add water to floor drains as needed.

Emergency and Miscellaneous Work
  • Perform initial emergency clean up.
  • Pick up water, bodily fluids or debris.
  • Extract carpeted floors and upholstered furniture with disinfectant.
  • Clean upholstery by hand or with extractor.
  • Move or assist in the moving of heavy furniture.
  • Stripping and finishing of hard surface floors and extracting of carpets as assigned.
  • Any duties assigned by the supervisor to fit the needs of the business.
  • Keep an inventory of emergency overnight kits.
  • Set up and distributed as directed.
  • Any duties as assigned by a manager.
