The ASIM (Alabama Science In Motion) Chemistry Materials Assistant is a staff member of the Regional In-Service Center. The primary responsibility is to assist the ASIM Chemistry Specialist in the refurbishment center. The Chemistry Materials Assistant will work up to 19 hours a week.
In addition to adhering to the general staff guidelines as specified by the AMSTI-Athens Site Director, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the In-service Center Director, and the State Department of Education, duties will include:
•Construct and refurbish ASIM Chemistry and Physical Science labs
•Customize kits and materials so that they are teacher/classroom friendly
•Assist the ASIM Content Specialists in organizing the materials center to ensure efficient use of space and storage of materials
•Assist ASIM Content Specialists with preparation for summer training and workshops
•Assist ASIM Content Specialists with the loading and unloading of labs for delivery and pick-up
•Work well with others and show respect to all constituents
•Perform other duties which relate to the position as assigned by the AMSTI site director or SDE


•Degree (or pursuing degree) in science/education or related field preferred
•Classroom teaching experience in Physical Science with AMSTI/ASIM training is preferred
•Ability to move heavy objects (at least 40 lbs.) required
•Effective oral and written communication skills required
•Must be able to drive and possess a current driver license

Salary Schedule

•The ASIM Chemistry Materials Assistant vacancy is a 12-month, permanent position. Salary will be $10/hour for up to 19 hours per week. Partial health benefits included.

Located in historic Athens, Alabama, Athens State University offers junior and senior-level coursework to community college graduates and transfer students holding sufficient credits from other institutions.
