The University of Mobile seeks an energetic and resourceful professional with proven leadership experience to become our next Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs.Reporting to the President, the VP for Business and Financial Affairs will serve on the President’s Cabinet and oversee the offices of Business, Event Services, Human Resources, and Facilities Management.

The VP for Business and Financial Affairs is responsible for the University’s budgets, audit, and taxes; internal and external financial reporting; investment reporting and debt management; and accounting, bursar, Treasury, and payroll services. Directs and controls the activities of functional area senior managers, supervisors, and/or high-level professionals within the department with overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, implementing and maintaining costs, methods and employees. Salary will be commensurate with experience. A review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until filled.

Position Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required (Accounting, MBA, Finance, Strategic Planning or related Field).
  • Seven years of increasingly responsible professional accounting or finance experience, at least three years in which were in supervisory capacity over multiple areas.
  • Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including compliance and reporting.
  • University experience is a significant plus.
  • Demonstrates ability to plan for fiscal stability and employ related business affairs strategies vital to the successful achievement of the university’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Ability to supervise and work well with others, evidence of problem-solving ability, and management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial, budget, accounting and other related fiscal expertise to ensure compliance with regulations and effective support of the university’s mission.
  • Knowledge of computer technology to carry out activities of the Office for Business & Financial Operations.
  • Strong initiative, organizational and leadership skills; evidence of good oral and written communication skills.
  • Possesses a strong, positive and highly professional image; articulate, persuasive, and able to build confidence with the leadership team and staff; ability to command respect through business and financial acumen; unquestionable integrity, credibility and character who has demonstrated high moral and ethical behavior; demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate others to get time pressured tasks completed in an accurate and timely manner; possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong goal-orientation combined with high intellect as well as the ability to effectively analyze situations and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously; flexible and adaptable personality capable of working in a relatively unstructured environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supervises: AVP for Business Affairs, Risk Management, University Post Office, Contract Services and University Calendar and Event Coordinator.
  • Responsible for management, direction, control and coordination of administrative and financial activities of the Office for Business & Financial Services.
  • Primary mission is to provide administrative services to the university (including Human Resources, Security, Facilities and Operations, Ram Dining and in partnership with VP for Student Life, oversight of Residential Life and Housing).
  • Directs the development of the budget, to allocate fiscal resources, and to manage the elements of fiscal accountability.
  • Oversees renovation and maintenance of facilities necessary to accomplish the university’s mission.
  • Responsible for the supervision of personnel and oversight of the activities of the departments of the Office for Business & Financial Operations.
  • Allocates fiscal resources, and manages the elements of fiscal accountability necessary to accomplish the University’s mission.
  • Supervises and directs all activities related to capital projects, renovation, and maintenance of facilities.
  • Serves as principal advisor to the President and other executive officers of the University on all administrative and financial functions and activities.
  • Establishes, subject to the approval of the President, goals and objectives for the Office for Business & Financial Services in all key areas for which the office has responsibility.
  • Manages and directs the activities and functions of all offices comprising the Office for Business & Financial Operations to ensure positive and cohesive support of the University’s mission and agenda.
  • Supervises and administers personnel functions and responsibilities relative to the Office for Business & Financial Operations in accord with University personnel policies and appropriate collective bargaining agreements.
  • Plans for fiscal stability and employs related business affairs strategies vital to the successful achievement of the University’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Advises and assists the President in communicating administrative and financial matters to the Board of Education, the Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner, and other public and private agencies external to the University.
  • Directs the management and development of the annual budget and the five-year capital improvement plan. Coordinates and supervises the budget and fiscal functions performed by directors within Business & Financial Operations.
  • Performs other duties and assignments as required by the needs of University of Mobile.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.
  • Travels as required, to participate in meetings and conferences.
