To assist the classroom instructor in providing culinary instruction to youth oriented courses, including lecture and lab components.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

•This position is limited duration to be filled on course by course need, is non-benefited, non-exempt hourly.
•Candidate must be flexible with work hours to meet evening or weekend class schedules; able to drive throughout College district as needed.
•Successful completion of background check is required; only information relevant to the position will be considered.
•Candidates must have current Oregon Driver’s License, or be able to provide transportation to and from their class.
•For those needing to drive college vehicles, a successful completion of a DMV reference check as necessary; only information relevant to the position will be considered.
•This position is posted as a “pool” position to collect applications for an anticipated opening. Your application will remain active in the system for future consideration if an instructor need becomes available.

Essential Functions:

1.Responsible for assisting lead instructor with classroom management, answering student questions regarding class exercises, providing instruction in procedures, monitoring assignments.
2.Provide oversight and direction of youth in class.
3.Help facilitate course material.
4.Aid lead instructor in reasonable and needed job duties.
5.In charge of student sign in and out.
6.Participate in appropriate professional development and training activities to remain current in knowledge and instructional methods.
7.Maintain a high standard of professionalism and ethics with students, colleagues and the community.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•Able to meet timelines and complete tasks without on-site management presence.
•Abide by all COCC policies and procedures.
•Ability to use computer applications (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook) and keyboard. Also able to use other basic office equipment (multi-line phone, copier, fax, adding machine, etc).
•Skill in public speaking; Knowledge and or familiarity of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
•Skill in time management and ability to teach and organize independently.
•Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community youth.
•Knowledge of and skill in various culinary, beverage and hospitality disciplines.
•Visual ability to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
•Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors.
•Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials.
•Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
•Willingness to travel and or assist classroom instructor at various hours and locations, as required.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Working hours are regular, per the established work schedule. Work is performed in an ordinary office, mostly sitting. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature with the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting under ten pounds for 15 percent of the time. Computer screen is used more than 75 percent of the time. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.Some high school education required. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
2.Experience or training in the discipline in which you would provide assistant instruction preferred.

Organization

Central Oregon Community College, the oldest two-year college in Oregon, provides comprehensive college services to the residents of its 10,000-square-mile district.

COCC offers two-year associate degrees, transfer/lower division programs, career and technical education degrees and certificates, developmental courses, continuing education and community learning classes, industry-specific training programs, and business management assistance.

The College's main campus is located on the western edge of Bend, a city known for its natural beauty and its proximity to diverse recreational opportunities. The location affords spectacular views of the mountains from nearly every point on the 201-acre campus. The Redmond Campus, located 20 miles north on 25 acres near the Redmond Municipal Airport, offers all of the courses necessary to earn an associate degree. Thanks to a successful 2009 bond measure, COCC has constructed campus facilities in Madras and Prineville, opening the two campuses in 2011. In Bend, new health careers and science centers opened in 2012 as well as a technology center in Redmond.

A branch of Oregon State University is located on the Bend campus. OSU-Cascades offers upper division and graduate programs on the COCC campus.
