TheOffice of the President has an opening for the position ofChief Compliance Officer , above grade 12. I. Basic Functions:Reporting to the President, the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) is responsible for formulating and communicating seamless, well-coordinated, and effective compliance strategies, goals, and objectives as well as a strategic vision for compliance that effectively manages and mitigates risks. The CCO is also responsible for a university wide implementation process of these strategies within the organizational chart. As such, the CCO will engage collaboratively with the Provost on academic compliance matters, the EVP/Dean on matters related to the Medical Center, and all other executives and administrators (including Internal Audit) on operational and financial compliance matters, and will consult and coordinate with the University’s outside legal counsel regarding compliance with US and Lebanese laws, rules and regulations applicable to the University. The CCO navigates compliance with US and Lebanese laws while balancing the University community’s mission of education, research and service all within the cultural context of Lebanon. II. Minimum Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Education, or related field, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in responding to regulatory or compliance issues, and the development and interpretation of policies, rules or regulations, in a collegiate, corporate, or government setting.
  • A J.D. degree (or equivalent legal degree) is a plus.
  • Experience working with compliance-related issues in higher education, medical/health sector, or the public sector, is preferred.
  • Understanding of US and Lebanese laws relating to the field of compliance for US universities and tax-exempt organizations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with University business and operations leaders, build consensus on compliance priorities University-wide, and to enhance internal compliance awareness and adherence to rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a highly complex and diverse compliance environment, and to respond appropriately in crisis situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and handle sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills (English and Arabic). Proven presentation experience and comfort with senior management audiences and effective facilitation skills with diverse groups.
  • Good familiarity with commonly used word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software packages.
