The main purpose of the Prestage Department of Poultry Science is to support the North Carolina poultry industry through extension, research, and teaching activities. Poultry is the largest income-producing commodity in the state and the Prestage Department of Poultry Science works together with different producers, commodity organizations, allied industries, and other state agencies in educating and distributing information gleaned from research and extension activities at the university level. The Department conducts research and extension projects in physiology, biotechnology, microbiology, immunology, nutrition, toxicology, genetics, animal well-being, and management with the ultimate goal to improve the production and wholesomeness of poultry as a food product.

Essential Job Duties

The NC State University Prestage Department of Poultry Science is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Poultry Reproductive Physiology. This is a primarily research position (50%) with Extension (30%) and academic teaching (20%) expectations. This faculty position will be expected to establish an extramurally independent funded research program that supports investigations to improve reproductive performance (egg production, fertility, and hatchability); primarily, in broiler breeders but also should include turkey breeders and commercial layer breeders.

This position is expected to work closely with the poultry breeder industries (Broiler, Turkey, and Layer Breeders) to address immediate and long term needs and opportunities. This position will teach courses to include undergraduate and/or graduate level classes related to breeder management, physiology, and/or reproductive endocrinology. This position will advise undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Finally, this position is expected to develop/communicate pertinent scientific knowledge to breeder producers. The individual within this position is also expected to develop education programs including Extension conferences/workshops to address poultry breeder education needs.
