About the College/Unit/Department

In 2018, The UGA Tifton Campus began a yearlong Centennial celebration with various events to commemorate its 100th anniversary of providing updated research to the community.

Research is done on a wide range of commodities, including cotton, peanuts, vegetables and turf grass, all of which make agriculture the No. 1 industry in Georgia.

In 2004, a teaching program was initiated and it has been growing ever since. College-level instruction on campus is aimed at undergraduate and graduate-degree level study.

This position is located in Tifton, GA, which is approximately 200 miles southwest of Athens, Georgia, 200 miles south of Atlanta, GA and approximately 70 miles north of the Florida line.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer someone with a MS degree in plant pathology or agricultural sciences with experience in performing standard molecular biology techniques or experience and knowledge of using statistical models for research data analysis; however, will consider a Bachelor’s in agricultural sciences or related field.

Position Summary

An opening is available for a Research Professional starting Summer 2019 in the molecular diagnostic laboratory in the Department of Plant Pathology, Tifton Campus (http://www.caes.uga.edu/campus/tifton/). This position will provide operations assistance to develop diagnostic methods for rapid and confident identification of plant diseases using next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and execution of standard pipelines for routine genomics data analyses. It is expected to be involved in training MS and Ph.D. students, research technicians and hourly employees, deliver research findings to extension agents and growers, prepare scientific manuscripts, help with drafting grant proposals and reports, and perform data analysis.

The position is currently funded for one year with the opportunity for renewal based on performance and funds availability.
