The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) at the College of Medicine invites applications for education track positions at the Assistant/Associate Professor level in the Division of Public Health. The DEH conducts world-renowned research and offers graduate training in environmental health, epidemiology, occupational safety, molecular genetics and public health. The department has over 40 full-time faculty and over 200 students in six divisions (Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Environmental Genetics and Molecular Toxicology, Environmental and Occupational Hygiene, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and Public Health Sciences). The DEH’s research portfolio for environmental and occupational health is among the top in the nation. Research funding for the DEH comes from NIH, the American Heart Association, NIOSH, industry, foundations, and a variety of federal and state agencies.

The Public Health Program is a CEPH-accredited graduate program offering the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. This program is among the largest graduate programs in the DEH and fastest growing in the College of Medicine. It currently has over 85 full and part-time students, and offers seven concentrations including health services and management, global health, biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental public health, occupational public health, and health education and promotion, and. Newly hired faculty will have the opportunity to collaborate through educational and service activities through public health community partners, such as the Cincinnati Public Health Department, the Hamilton County Public Health Department, and the Northern Kentucky Health Department. In addition, collaborative activities are encouraged with leading health systems, including Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center; the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and its affiliated for profit and non for profit organizations; and federal agencies, such as the EPA and NIOSH.

Job Description:

Two education track faculty positions are open at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The ideal candidate will be expected to (1) teach public health courses at the graduate level and senior undergraduate level; (2) advise and mentor students in academic development and achievement, in applied practical experience, and in an integral learning experiences; (3) assist with curriculum development, program assessment, community engagement, and involvement with professional societies through service; and (4) undertake other duties as assigned from the Public Health Program. Scholarship through independent and/or collaborative research and publication is not required for the non-tenure education track position unless the candidate is offered a tenure track in education pathway at hiring, or the hired faculty member applies for switching to the tenure track later.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include (1) a doctoral degree in the public health field or a related field such as health education, health behavior, health services, health economics and finance, and allied health sciences; (2) prior teaching experience in public health; (3) prior experience in advising and mentoring graduate or senior undergraduate students; and (4) ability to apply advance knowledge and methods through teaching of public health courses.

Preferred qualifications include:

(1) experience in teaching MPH courses, including health systems and policy, leadership, management, and communication in public health, inter-professional learning experience, health economics and finance, social behavioral sciences, infectious disease, and global health related topics;

(2) experience in leading MPH students in applied practice experience or practicum, and integrative learning experience or culminating experience;

(3) experiences in curriculum development, program assessment and community engagement; and

(4) experience in partnering with domestic and/or international public health and/or community-based agencies.
