DescriptionThe Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education at theUniversity of Colorado Colorado Springs invites applications for a one-year full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position of Special Education with a specialty in structured literacy instruction and learning disabilities within inclusive classroom settings to begin in Fall 2019. The workload for this position is teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in a variety of formats (in-person, online, hybrid, or at off-campus locations) with the potential for additional teaching opportunities during the summer, as well as interdisciplinary teaching assignments within other departments. Additionally, the Visiting Assistant Professor will develop and refine teaching and assessment practices; work in partnership with area schools; participate in curriculum development; contribute to the COE's accreditations initiatives; participate in program, department, college, and community meetings; and other duties as assigned. The position also requires the candidate to actively engage in research and seek international and external funding as well as serve on department, college, and university committees. The successful candidate will have experience of effective in-person college-level teaching; experience in structured literacy instruction and learning disabilities within inclusive classroom settings; and will also have demonstrated a positive history of professional relationships and collaboration. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in public school settings; experience in supervision of student teachers, practicum students, and/or mentorship role of novice teachers; experience and willingness to engage in online instruction; and demonstrated effectiveness in using technology in instruction. Preference will also be given for experience, expertise, or interest in rural education.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements
- Earned doctorate in, or allcoursework completed except dissertation, in Special Education and/or closelyrelated area (i.e., Inclusive Education, Disability Studies, ReadingInstruction, Learning Disabilities, etc.) from a regionally accreditedinstitution. Conferral of degree before August 18, 2019 is required.
- Minimum of three years ofschool-based special education experience.
