DescriptionThe Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education at theUniversity ofColorado Colorado Springsinvites applications for a full-time, one year, visiting assistant professorappointment to begin August 2019. The Department seeks an individual withcontent knowledge of best practices in Elementary Education and expertise inElementary Literacy. The workload for this position will require that thecandidate teach courses, advise students, conduct relevant research,engage in continuous program review and development, participate in curriculumdevelopment, participate in campus and community service, contribute to theCOE’s accreditations initiatives, and may collaborate in team-teaching. Theposition also requires the candidate to actively engage in research and seekinternational and external funding as well as serve on department, college, anduniversity committees.

 

The successfulcandidate has experience in ESL, Special Education, or a highly related field;experience working with teacher candidates in school sites/partner schools;experience in securing external funding; experience and familiarity withstandards-based curricula and performance-based education; experience inaccreditation; and experience using technology to enhance educational experiencesand access for students pursuing teacher preparation.

Preference willbe given to candidates who have a demonstrated history of professionalrelationships and collaboration; demonstrated understanding of and commitmentto social justice and inclusive education; demonstrated excellence in teachingat the university level; and evidence of ability to sustain scholarship andprofessional record. Preference will also be given for experience, expertise,or interest in rural education.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements
  • Earned doctorate in, or allcoursework completed except dissertation, in education, elementary education,literacy, and/or closely related area (reading, linguistics, curriculum and instruction)from a regionally accredited institution. Conferral of degree before August 18, 2019 is required. 
  • Minimum of three years of experienceserving children in a  P-12 school setting with diverse abilities.
