Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide tactical leadership for Loyola University Chicago’s annual giving
activities. In this role, the Director of Annual Giving provides strategic and operational leadership for the University’s Annual Giving program and is responsible for the overall design and successful implementation of comprehensive and coordinated annual giving initiatives, which includes direct mail, email and Phonathon campaigns across the University’s schools and units. This position directly manages mail and online programs, phone programs, and personal solicitation, and indirectly manages a staff of student fundraisers in an effort to build relationships and raise funds for the strategic priorities of Loyola University Chicago’s many colleges, programs, and activities.
Guided by the University’s mission, the Director of Annual Giving will apply marketing research, segmentation, and communications strategies in an effort to build upon the donor base and raise funds. Additionally, under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Engagement and the Vice President for Advancement and in concert with other staff, manage the comprehensive solicitation calendar as appropriate to increase dollars raised, average gift and participation rates.
-Responsible for the strategic direction, management, and reporting of the solicitation of annual giving to the University. Manages the centralized Annual Giving staff and the director of the Phonathon. Additionally, provides overall vision and collaboration with the annual giving staff based in the professional schools of Business, Law, and Medicine and other units as needed.
-Demonstrates knowledge of University mission, services, policies and procedures
-Provide timely, periodic business-based reports to the division utilizing University IT supported tools.
-Administer the Annual Giving budget. Assists in the development of the budgets each fiscal year to ensure that they align with Division’s priorities
-Utilize strong data analysis and mining skills to identify appropriate and effective strategies for soliciting Loyola’s diverse audiences, including current and past donors, alumni, parents, and friends of the University
-Utilize variable data strategies as much as is possible to create unique and highly personalized solicitation packages for these audiences
-Ensure that annual giving messaging is consistent with university priorities and mission
-Research and implement new marketing strategies to improve participation rates, average gift size and overall revenue to various programs
-Work closely with internal and external collaborators to provide visually appealing and cost effective communication pieces
-Provide management oversight of and goal setting for special annual giving programs, including but not limited to annual giving leadership society, day of giving, young alumni programs and senior class gift
-Develop relationships with Administration and Deans to ensure the team is best supporting them within a central approach. Exhibit finesse and decorum when necessary to shift expectations amongst leadership.
-Develop, implement and oversee new fundraising strategies, including but not limited to, day of giving, crowdfunding, and recurring giving.
-Partner with the Director of Alumni Relations to establish a holistic strategy in alignment with developing the philanthropic pipeline.
-Familiarity with producing recognition and stewardship event for donors.
-Manage a portfolio of assigned prospects
-Directly supervise several employees in the Annual Giving team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; goal-setting and strategic planning; appraising performance; rewarding and developing employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
-Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Bachelor’s degree and six to ten years of related experience in Advancement/Development with a minimum of three to five years in annual giving, preferably with a college or university that solicits alumni, parents, and friends for financial support.

Master’s degree is highly desirable. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications

-Previous experience with both targeted and mass direct mail, as well as
familiarity with a student phonathon program.
-Very strong project management skills with the ability to take a project from concept to completion in a determined amount of time within a determined budget.
-Very strong writing skills for a variety of project types, including but not limited to solicitation letters, e-mail and web communications and newsletters.
-Demonstrates a professional demeanor and ability to work with constituents at all levels.
-Excellent strategic and analytical thinking skills.
-Independently motivated and goal-oriented.
-Strong communication skills including verbal, interpersonal and organizational.
-Requires a minimum of three years of demonstrated staff management experience.
-Ability to deal with confidential information in a sensitive manner, confidentiality required.
-Ability to work well under pressure and handle several projects simultaneously.
