General Summary of Position:

The Assistant Coach of Men’s and Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country is responsible for leading all aspects of developing and managing a competitive Division I program within the parameters designated by the University, America East Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Assist with the oversight of all aspects of student-athlete development and performance of Division I Track and Field/Cross Country program:
• Organizing, recruitment/evaluation of student-athletes
• Conducting and supervising team practices and conditioning sessions
• Preparing and implementing individual and team training strategies
• Optimizing technology to enhance recruiting, scouting and individual performance
• Mentoring and providing appropriate leadership, direction and supervision relevant to the academic progress and personal development of student-athletes
• Creating an environment that supports student-athlete welfare 60%

2. Assist with the management of administrative functions within the intercollegiate Track and Field/Cross Country program:
• Participating in conference and NCAA meetings
• Adhering to all University, Conference and NCAA rules/requirements
• Preparing and executing strategic plan for program
• Developing competitive competition schedules for each program
• Forecasting and managing budget needs relevant to equipment, scheduling, recruiting, travel, etc. 20%

3. Provide supervision and direction to the rest of the staff directly associated with program:
• Supervising academic progress of the student-athletes
• Collaborating with Sports Performance and Athletic Health Care staff 10%

4. Serve as a University Ambassador by:
• Engaging in fund-raising efforts for program
• Representing the Department of Athletics at designated University, conference, departmental and community functions
• Building alumni relationships
• Promoting participation and committing to community outreach 10%
Promote the University’s commitment to customer service by:
• Build effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
• Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
• Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:
1. Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position requires the ability to travel, and to work evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 1 to 2 years successful experience in Track and Field coaching, recruiting and administration experience in a college or university
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of techniques and strategies of the sport
  • Commitment to high ethical standards and academics success
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting regionally and nationally
  • Experience working effectively in diverse environments
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Additional Considerations:

  • Proven ability to provide mentoring and leadership, and a commitment to student-athlete welfare
  • Preferred Division I coaching experience
  • Familiarity with the Northeast Region
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and public relations skills
