Assistant/Associate Director of Engineering Admissions - Student Svc Assoc II

The COE Admissions team supports prospective graduate and undergraduate students (including transfer and international students) by providing information and guidance related to applying to Cornell Engineering graduate and undergraduate programs.

The Assistant/Associate of Admissions & Diversity Recruitment works closely with the Director, providing counsel and assistance in the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of freshman and transfer students with a leadership role in the recruitment and yield of multicultural students to the College. The Assistant/Associate will manage the review and evaluation processes for freshman applications from a specific region as well as present general information sessions.

In coordination with the Engineering Admissions staff, the Assistant/Associate develops and implements new and measurable recruitment strategies based on research conducted on targeted populations to enhance the College of Engineering’s capacity to recruit, select, and enroll students from backgrounds underrepresented in Engineering (African American, Latino/a, Native American, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Native Alaskan, and First Generation College Students). The Assistant/Associate Director will coordinate a diversity focused communications plan in collaboration with the Director of Admissions and the Diversity Programs in Engineering Office. He or she will also provide leadership and support for on- and off-campus recruitment and outreach programs including overnight visitation programs, admissions workshops, and information sessions, building relationships with specific high school partners.


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent and a minimum of 3-4 years of undergraduate admissions experience. Excellent communication skills both oral and written, active listening skills, and outstanding customer service skills. Ability to work within a team framework, while taking the initiative to develop, coordinate, and manage specific projects. Experience in developing, implementing, and managing student recruitment programs targeting underrepresented minorities, women, First Generation College students, and students from low socioeconomic status backgrounds. Knowledge and understanding of undergraduate student outreach, recruitment, and admissions issues germane to diverse high school and transfer student populations.


Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in education, or related field, preferred. Experience recruiting multicultural and first-generation students to highly selective undergraduate colleges/universities.  More than 4 years of relevant work experience. Experience reviewing applications for admission in a high applicant volume environment and making admissions decisions.
