JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Public Relations/Government Relations Assistant will be focused on supporting the department in areas including writing, assisting with interviews and photo shoots, and other duties.. He/she will be supported by a mentor but will work with, and perform duties as assigned by, others in the department. This is a $12-per-hour temporary position, up to 20 hours per week.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Goals / project descriptions

Press releases/media advisories
  • Research and draft press releases and pitches for assigned topics.
  • Identify appropriate news outlets/reporters in both trade and mainstream media

Support Public Relations/Government Relations Activities
  • Help support Public Relations work with Government Relations duties, including developing a content folder with state and federal officials' bios and areas of interest/committee assignments.
  • Identify WPI research areas and projects that have local, state and regional impact. Summarize for quick pitches and/or leave behinds.
  • Identify Fall 2019 project work for future media pitches.
  • Assist with on- and off-campus events, interviews and photo shoots.
Other
  • Monitor social media and news for Government Relations topics and opportunities for WPI op-eds and pitches.
  • Research effective digital newsrooms.

Old English stone buildings are focal points of the architecture, but modern facilities have moved in to claim their own space on the immaculately kept grounds. WPI’s newest building, the Foisie Innovation Studio, is slated to open in Fall 2018 and will house high-tech classrooms, makerspaces, labs, and a residence hall for 140 students.
