Position Description:
Under the direction of the Manager of Infrastructure at the Office for Research Information Systems (ORIS), the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the implementation and operation of IT infrastructure for campus-wide applications related to research administration.

The incumbent will lead monitoring, operation, and administration of a 24x7 critical technology infrastructure (physical, virtual, and/or cloud components) and supervise systems administration staff. In addition, the incumbent will safeguard university data, physical infrastructure, applications availability, and business continuity.

The incumbent will oversee the operational architecture and administration of complex database systems supporting applications with a campus-wide user base. These duties will include database storage architecture, implementing and supervising routine database performance monitoring, maintaining database indexes and backups, and troubleshooting low-performing databases and providing guidance to programmers for queries and database applications which need application-layer performance improvement.

The incumbent will provide insight into the technology strategy and propose, implement, and improve procedures and projects in accordance with that strategy. The incumbent will also recommend, justify, test, and implement specific technical improvements or new technologies.

The incumbent will also assist with implementation planning, coordinate testing, and provide third-tier engineering support for existing research administration business applications and for application development efforts.

Must be able to communicate well with staff at all levels of the organization, work effectively with little supervision in a 24x7 operational environment, and effectively supervise and lead a team.
