Requirements

Georgetown University's Division of Student Affairs contributes to the establishment of a student-centered learning community that fosters educational and personal development and is dedicated to the Jesuit tradition of care for self and others - cura personalis. The Health Education Services (HES) offers health promotion programming and health communication materials for students, aiming to engage students in their own health education by offering fun and interactive programming. Sexual violence is a common problem on college campuses, with an estimated 20-25% of students experiencing unwanted sexual contact. Response to students is complex work, requiring specialized trauma training and expertise and the ability to know and navigate both universities as well as off-campus systems of treatment, support, and adjudication.
The Staff Clinician / Sexual Assault Services Specialist provides direct confidential health and mental health counseling clinical services to students experiencing the impact of trauma in their lives, most likely in a 1 on 1 setting in Health Education Services. S/he contributes to services provided primarily for sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking, with a particular emphasis on designing and implementing outreach, education, and training programs that target vulnerable and marginalized populations. The Staff Clinician and Sexual Assault Services Specialist reports directly to the Director of Sexual Violence Response and Prevention Services within Health Education Services and has duties that include but are not limited to:

• Understands the environment within which a student is functioning, empowering the student to advocate for her or himself, as well as facilitates connecting with other resources on campus.
• Conducts ongoing crisis intervention and crisis management to survivors of interpersonal violence through both appointments and walk-in requests.
• Provides direct confidential counseling services on all matters of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and mental health.
• Provides ongoing direct advocacy for survivors through interacting with campus and community partners, including, but not limited to, law enforcement, medical service, Title IX and Residential Living.
• Develops and works closely with colleagues on peer education programming.
• Works with student groups to develop culturally relevant and promising programs that are guided by evidence based prevention strategies, best practices, and student involvement for primary prevention.
• Enhances the resources available for vulnerable and marginalized populations, including direct crisis counseling services and education and outreach.
• Provides confidential multi-dimensional services as a part of recovery from the impact of sexual violence and other trauma.
• Partakes in outreach education and training as an essential component so that the university community is aware of resources for students.
• Works collaboratively with other health professionals in Health Education Services and a variety of campus and off campus resources.

Qualifications

• Master's degree
• Licensed health professional, with a current DC license or ability to be licensed in DC
• Previous training as a sexual assault/domestic violence victims advocate
• Experienced educator with 2 to 3 years of higher education expertise
• Experience on college campuses providing confidential counseling services
• Ability to work some evenings and weekends
• Group facilitation skills and experience with diverse and marginalized populations preferred
• Cross cultural competency with experience with diverse populations and intersectionality
