About Jefferson Community College:
Come work in beautiful northern New York at Jefferson Community College located in Watertown, New York, near the shores of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, Jefferson serves students pursuing credit courses in liberal arts, business, math, science, allied health and technology for transfer or career purposes. We also offer a multitude of workshops for professional training, personal development and youth.
The Humanities Department sometimes seeks part-time adjunct music instructors to help provide a well-rounded music education for students. A variety of academic and performing courses are offered in music history, music theory, music techniques, and music performance that allow students to develop an understanding of a variety of music genres. Applied music instruction and ensemble performance opportunities allow students to concentrate on and develop musicianship. Jefferson music facilities supporting music instruction include smart classrooms, a state-of-the-art music lab complete with computer/piano workstations, private practice rooms, a 500-seat theater, and a music studio with student lounge.
Due to varied music courses, the required education and experience of adjunct music instructors depends on the music course taught. A master's degree in music with college teaching experience and an understanding of electronic music instruction is preferred; however, for some music courses, candidates with a bachelor's degree in music with appropriate teaching and performing experience may be considered.
This is a pooled search. Jefferson Community College is seeking to develop a pool of qualified applicants to teach courses in Music. Adjunct applications will be kept on file for three years to fill part-time teaching vacancies as they occur.
The College determines the need for adjunct instructors based on planned courses each term; it is not possible to predict the need for future semesters. When an opening does occur, finalists for adjunct positions are contacted for interviews.
