Job Description
The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice position to begin fall 2019. This is a one-year appointment for the academic year 2019-2020, full time, non-tenure track position. The teaching load will be 4-4 with minimal expectations in the area of research and service. This position will support teaching for the criminal justice major and minor program. Course assignments will be undergraduate courses across the Criminal Justice curriculum such as Comparative Criminal Justice, Organized Crime, Research Methods for Criminal Justice, and Introduction to Criminal Justice as well as courses that may fall within the successful candidate's areas of expertise. The candidate must be able to teach the classroom format on the TAMUCC campus and may be asked to teach using hybrid or online formats. The successful candidate will show enthusiastic teaching skills and a strong commitment to developing excellence in teaching and the ability to work in a team environment.

The Department of Social Sciences (DSOC) is a multi-disciplinary department in the College of Liberal Arts that offers undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice and Political Science and the graduate degree of Masters of Public Administration. The Criminal Justice program is one of the largest undergraduate majors on campus. Through its contribution to the core curriculum, Political Science is one of the largest generators of student credit hours for the university. The MPA program is the largest graduate program in the College of Liberal Arts. DSOC faculty are leaders on campus, in the community, and in their disciplines. Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related discipline. ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.
  • The ability to teach in the on-campus classroom format.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentoring.
  • Experience and/or willingness to teach in the hybrid and/or online course format.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of experience teaching undergraduate Criminal Justice courses such as Comparative Criminal Justice, Organized Crime, Research Methods for Criminal Justice, and Introduction to CJ.
  • A certificate that demonstrates having completed professional development in the utilization and/or best practices of online course design.
  • One year of experience teaching online using the Blackboard or a similar course management system.
  • Experience with or willingness to deliver writing-intensive courses.
  • Experience with or willingness to deliver courses that incorporate collaborative assignments/projects, global learning, service learning, diversity issues and/or undergraduate research.
