Dean College's School of Liberal Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Mathematics for Artists during the fall semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.
We are seeking an adjunct instructor for MTH 125: Mathematics for Artists. MTH 125 is a 3-credit class that meets for 2.5 hours/week. There are approximately 25 students in a section. The adjunct pay rate is $2,800/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The Mathematics program provides a course charter with course objectives.
The course description is as follows: This is a newly developed course designed for students in the performing arts interested in using a problem-based learning model to build the foundation of skills they will need for the future careers. Interested candidates will have experience with problem-based learning (PBL) pedagogy and with developing curriculum. Mathematical skills include basics of geometry, algebra, budgets and finance and quantitative reasoning.
There is one MTH 125 section available. It is scheduled to meet Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 11--11:50 a.m.
- A Master's degree in mathematics or related discipline area is required, a PhD preferred;
- College teaching experience preferred, particularly experience teaching first and second year undergraduates;
- Experience with or willingness to learn Moodle, our learning management system, and classroom media is necessary;
- The successful candidate will possess expertise in learner-centered teaching; use of technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy and the ability to work effectively with a culturally-diverse student body with a variety of learning styles.
