Job Description:


Wittenberg University is recruiting for a Dispatcher for the Wittenberg Police Division. The Dispatcher will answer emergency and non-emergency calls, gather information and dispatch officer(s); provide communications back up to officers; respond to requests from officers for residence and vehicle verification; observe proper radio procedure and dispatch protocol; maintain dispatch logs via computer aided dispatch system; and follow established procedures.


Primary functions include, but are not limited to:


  • Serve as operator to the main campus switchboard. Answer incoming calls and forward to proper department or provide information as needed.
  • Serve as the liaison for Student Development personnel for student safety issues and after-hours maintenance issues.
  • Monitor energy management/alarm system; dispatch officers, respond to alarms and request service as needed.
  • Request service for after-hours emergencies. Communicate with Housekeeping and Physical Plant personnel, as needed, utilizing two-way radio, voice paging system and/or cell phone system. Log pages and out-going telephone calls.
  • Provide counter service including but not limited to providing information, fax service, and assist with vehicle registration.
  • Maintain, revise and update department resource materials as needed.
  • Distribute motor pool packets and assist students, faculty and staff with the paperwork needed to certify as an authorized university driver.
  • Assist with questions regarding parking citations and appeals.
  • Summons medic units and fire department, as needed.
  • Compose and send emergency texts, as required.
  • Assist with Tiger Transport service, as needed. Answer calls for transport rides and dispatch drivers.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Chief/Lieutenant/Coordinator or their designee.


Requirements:


The Wittenberg Police Division is a 24-hour, 7 day a week operation, including holidays. This is a full-time position and requires the ability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift and weekends. Dispatchers must be able to work additional hours on short notice as necessary.


This position requires a high school diploma or GED; effective verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills working with a diverse population; ability to multi-task; sound judgment in handling emergency calls; and some keyboarding/computer skills. Must be able to work independently and maintain confidentiality of records and information; and possess critical thinking skills to resolve issues which arise in a college campus environment.



Additional Information:


This position has a beginning pay rate of $13.00 per hour and is eligible for full benefits, retirement and tuition remission.
