Job Summary

Eastern Washington University and the Department of Occupational Therapy invite applications for an individual to serve as a full-time Lecturer. Start date for this position is August 1, 2019. This is a standard 9-month faculty appointment; the academic calendar typically runs from mid-August to mid-May.

The full-time Lecturer position will carry a 90% teaching as outlined in the University Collective Bargaining Agreement, plus 10% service to the Department and the profession. Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in student advising and ongoing assessment of student learning. Current teaching needs are in the areas of physical dysfunction, geriatrics, mental health, program development, leadership, and/ or health and wellness.

The Lecturer Position is open until filled and screening will begin June 14, 2019. All materials will be held in strictest confidence; references will not be contacted until candidates have been notified.

This position received faculty benefits which continue for all 12 months of the year.

Conditions of Employment

There may be opportunities for a summer teaching contract. Faculty benefits will continue through the summer whether or not a summer teaching appointment is available, as long as the candidate hired for the position is reappointed for academic year 2020-21.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university fund or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to the position’s start date.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in occupational therapy or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of clinical experiences in a variety of occupational therapy practice areas, including mental health, geriatrics, and/or health and wellness.
  • Previous experience lecturing in an MOT/OTA program in some capacity.
  • Experience working effectively with inter-professional colleagues.
  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as an occupational therapist in the state of Washington.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced masters or doctoral degree in occupational therapy or related field.
  • Evidence of completion of relevant specialty certification, such as Certified Hand Therapist, and/or AOTA Board Certification in related topics
  • Four or more years of clinical experience in a variety of practice areas, including but not limited to mental health, health and wellness, and/or geriatric.
  • One year of college-level teaching experience as a course instructor.
  • Evidence of participation and leadership in professional activities.
  • Evidence of technical publications related to the field of occupational therapy.
  • Evidence of working with or for individuals from rural or other underserved populations.

Job Duties

% of Time 100 Responsibility / Duty

The Lecturer position will carry a full-time teaching load of 30 contact hours per year. Current teaching needs are in the areas of physical dysfunction, geriatrics, mental health, program development, leadership, and/ or health and wellness. Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching.

Teaching includes the following additional related responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
o Meet all scheduled classes
o Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
o Schedule and attend office hours
o Turn in grades according to established deadlines
