Full-Time Close All Job SummaryThe Applied and Computational Mathematics Division at NIST is seeking a postdoctoral candidate to conduct research in neuromorphic computing. Advances in CMOS architecture that have been so predictable for decades, are now slowing down. Furthermore, while machine learning applications are becoming increasingly popular, a theoretical basis for their successes and failures remains elusive. Taken together, these observations motivate our new research program investigating novel computational paradigms. Research topics include: foundational analysis of the computational capacity of a physical system, reservoir computing, and analysis and development of algorithms for spike-based computation.Who We AreThe Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) is a special partnership between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Colorado Boulder. PREP provides research opportunities to CU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in NIST labs to gain research experience alongside NIST scientists.
The particular group that needs a researcher is the Mathematical Analysis and Modeling Group in the Applied and Computational Mathematics Division at NIST.What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeThis research will be conducted in collaboration with NIST physicists developing cutting-edge, unconventional computational devices built of integrated photonics and/or magnetic Josephson junctions. Theory is sought to inform design and to assess capabilities of these novel hardware platforms. What We Can OfferThe annual salary range for this position is market-based, highly competitive, and will be based upon relevant background and experience.Benefits

The University of Colorado offers excellent benefits, including medical, dental, retirement, paid time off, tuition benefit and ECO Pass. The University of Colorado Boulder is one of the largest employers in Boulder County and offers an inspiring higher education environment. Learn more about the University of Colorado Boulder.
