The Department of Writing and Language Studies at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) occasionally has the need to hire One-Year Lecturers to teach a variety of its language courses, including, but not limited to, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Spanish Translation & Interpreting. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction within the relevant area(s) beginning Fall 2018.

UTRGV faculty are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV’s vision, mission and core priorities (http://www.utrgv.edu/strategic-plan/strategic-plan/index.htm).

Minimum Qualifications

The qualifications to be considered as a one-year lecturer are a master’s degree from an accredited institution in the relevant language or language-related discipline with at least 18 graduate hours in the relevant language or language-related discipline.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

For Spanish Translation & Interpreting, a Master’s Degree in Translation and/or Interpreting with Spanish and English as language combination is required.

Preferred Qualification

(1) Two years teaching at the post-secondary level; (2) the ability to teach in a variety of classrooms including face to face, hybrid, and online; (3) graduate coursework in language teaching

    A New University with a Long History

    The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

     

    Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

     

    UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

    The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

    Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
