Associate Director, Research Computing Job Number Full/Part Time Schedule Salary 201905282481 Full Time 8AM - 5PM Commensurate with Experience Position Information The Associate Director for Research Computing serves as the thought leader for advancing research computing within Information Technology Solutions (ITS). The position develops research computing grant strategy and related budget opportunities; facilitates the collaboration of research technology initiatives within ITS in coordination with BCOE, HPCC and library partners; serves as the lead systems architect overseeing an environment built around research computation, advanced statistical computing and network interoperability with the campus Science DMZ; responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing applications, systems architecture and network infrastructure in support of research computing; ensures operation and security of all servers and networks; configures, installs, maintains and upgrades applications and hardware for the organization's research computing environment(s). On occasion, the position will serve as a proxy for the Chief Information Officer and/or Chief Technology Officer in related academic senate technology discussions. The salary offer will be commensurate with experience within the budget range of $120,000 to $125,000. Minimum Requirements Demonstrated ability to initiate research proposals and acquire funding.
Demonstrated research and technology project leadership and management skills.
Thorough knowledge of subject area for assisting in strategic planning, research and technology assessment and direction.
Demonstrated experience working in a complex computing/data/CI environment encompassing all or some of the following: HPC, data science infrastructure and tools/software, and diverse domain science application base.
Verbal and written communication, quantitative abilities, strong analytical skills.
Experience in the management of ongoing HPC/Data/CI technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, to include the identification and integration of emerging hardware and software technologies.
Solid knowledge of research and development methods, HPC hardware and software power and performance analysis and research, design, modification, implementation and deployment of HPC or data science or CI applications and tools.
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization and to external research and education audiences.
Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to lead a technical staff of HPC/Data/CI and/or scientific personnel, including projects performed by multiple developers.
Demonstrated critical thinking, persuasion/negotiation, conflict resolution, mentoring and staff development, supervision, problem solving, human resources policies and procedures relating to management responsibilities.
