Admissions Counselor

Under the supervision of the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for representing the University both on- and off-campus to prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process including at college fairs, high school visits, and other events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordination and support of invitational programs of the Office of Admissions, as well as in conjunction with those of other campus offices.
  • In close consultation with the Associate Director, manage ongoing strategic communications with high school and independent counselors, by means of email, print, and other media.
  • Plan and implement recruitment activities for assigned high schools and territories, including travel both in and out-of-state.
  • Counsel prospective applicants on the admissions process and opportunities at the University by in-person appointments, phone calls, emails, and social media outlets.
  • Review and score application essays and other materials submitted by applicants for the purpose of making admission decisions.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the success of various student visitation programs designed to recruit targeted prospective applicants to the University.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of on-campus events and programs for counseling groups and individuals.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity
  • Ability to articulate the aims and benefits of a liberal arts education
  • Position requires extensive travel and working nights and weekends as needed

Please note: Four separate positions are to be filled, each with different specialties. A strong candidate would have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Traveling out-of-state to recruit students
  • Leveraging social media as a digital marketing tool
  • Multicultural recruitment – fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Event management and operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be service- and team-oriented, positive and proactive
  • Analytical ability, strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work on multiple projects effectively and simultaneously
  • Knowledge of standard office software applications
  • Must have valid driver’s license
