Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualificaitons.

Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

This is a position of skilled manual labor at the journeyman level in several skilled trades. The employee in this position has general construction and maintenance responsibilities for the Fortson 4-H Center located in Hampton, GA. Duties involve performing work, and at times supervising unskilled, or semi-skilled labors. It will work under the supervision of the Center Director. Trades include but are not limited to: landscaping, plumbing, electrical fixture replacement, woodworking, drywall work, and painting.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, methods and equipment of the various trades. Ability to work from drawings, sketches, and oral or written directions. Skill in using tools and material required by the applicable trade; those tools include but are not limited to woodworking (table saws, circular saws, and hand drills), landscaping (chain saws, weed trimmers, riding, and walk behind mowers), and Plumbing (hammer drills, and reciprocating saws). Ability to work effectively with other facility employees.

Class 4 well water license

CPR and AED training.

Physical Demands

Work outdoors year round in all weather, will be on feet all day long working with hands. Carry 50 lbs, work on hands and knees, and crawl under buildings, drive large vehicles, handle power tools safely with required PPE. Can safely climb ladders and regularly get onto pitched roofs. Walk 3 miles a day.

Landscaping duties such as mowing, weeding, mulching, digging, blowing.

Maintain plantings around property to include cleaning, weeding, planting, and watering.

Address work orders for maintenance fixes from other departments through Center Director

Perform scheduled daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks as preventative maintenance with a high degree of autonomy. Examples are changing filters, inspecting fire extinguishers, testing well water.

Maintain a list with Center Director of improvements to facilities and grounds and implement changes as time/budget presents opportunities for improvements.
