UTeach-Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a Full-Time Clinical Assistant Professor.

Purpose of the Position:

Develop and coordinate training of students in the College of Liberal Arts seeking social studies and/or History certification.

Essential Functions:

Teaching and/or supervising undergraduate, post-baccalaureate and graduate students in UTL 640 and UTL 360/670 and experiences related to field-based teacher development. Primary responsibilities include teaching field-based courses students take in pursuit of certification, coordinating and supervising field placements of the students, and working with local area public school teachers who act as mentors for the students. Serve as one of three coordinators of the student teaching course. Help organize topics, course materials, and communication between the practicum lecturers, student teachers’ cooperating teachers, and field supervisors. Additional duties will include student mentoring and other programmatically related tasks, develop College of Liberal Arts social studies curriculum, including teacher preparation, and outreach to schools. Work with UT staff, faculty, other departments, and academic advisors to implement program. Advise students interested in teacher certification.


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree. Must hold teacher certification in Social Studies and/or History. Twelve years recent experience teaching Social Studies and/or History to primarily high school students with preference for public school experience. Must demonstrate leadership in his or her field. Experience developing academic curriculum. Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD. More than above stated qualifications. Experience with educational uses of technology. Active participation in professional organizations and activities.
