The Campus Police Officer (CPO) protects life and property on the college campus. Work involves professional response to the need for the prevention and detection of crimes and for generally maintaining law and order. Work also involves patrolling assigned area, traffic enforcement, accident reporting, and criminal investigations. Assignments are received from the Chief of Campus Police or other superiors and carried out using established policies and procedures; however, the employee must exercise quick, independent, and sound judgment and display initiative in applying work methods to emergency situations which arise when the superior is not immediately available. Work requires dedication to public service often made difficult by emotional or physical stress of events. Work is reviewed through conferences, written reports, inspections, and observation of results obtained. Incumbents are required to be available for all shifts and to work occasional overtime. Campus Police Officers must pass a physical exam and are subject to applicable drug testing policies.

Essential Duties
  • Patrols a designated area of the campus on foot or in a patrol vehicle to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of crimes, and to enforce traffic regulations; answers calls and complaints involving fire, traffic or other accidents, robberies, and other misdemeanors and felonies, and takes necessary police action; makes arrests.
  • Conducts investigations of criminal activities, consisting of collection and identification of evidence, questioning principals and witnesses, case preparation, and testifying in court. Investigates traffic accidents and performs related traffic control functions.
  • Performs dispatcher duties such as operating telephone and radios, and performing related clerical tasks. This position requires fast, efficient, and accurate receiving, dispatching, and processing of calls and messages to and from police vehicles and personnel.
  • Safeguards physical assets of the institution by reporting missing equipment, reporting observed mechanical problems with equipment, and reporting observed safety hazards.
  • Recovers stolen property; provides money escorts.
  • Provides various types of public service and assistance to students, faculty, staff, guests, and visitors on the college campus; performs others duties which may promote a safe, attractive campus.
  • Prepares necessary records and reports.
  • This position is designated by the institution as a Position of Trust and as Essential Personnel.
  • Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications and Training
  • Graduation from high school
  • Completion of the requirements for peace officer as set forth in the Georgia Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Act, as defined by the Georgia Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Council are required
  • Selected candidate must sucessfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background investigation and is subject to random drug screening.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactorily pass an MVR background check
Preferred Qualifications and Training

Two years experience as a certified law enforcement officer is highly desirable.
