General Summary

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology (SAC), invites applications for Part-Time Lecturer positions in the undergraduate Sociology, Anthropology, Criminology and Criminal Justice program.

Depending on the needs of the program, which vary in the regular Fall and Winter terms, we may seek new Part-Time Lecturers to teach:

Sociology: Primarily 100/200-level introductory courses; however, occasionally we also have needs to fill courses at the 300-level.

Anthropology: 100-level introductory courses in the major anthropological subfields (sociocultural, physical, archaeological), as well as more advanced (200- and 300-level) ethnographic and topical courses.

Criminology: Introductory courses in the concentrations of the major (Law Enforcement, Corrections, Criminal Justice Administration and Legal Studies) as well as more advanced and specialized courses.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching may include a number of particular obligations which employees are expected to fulfill, including but not limited to: meeting with students during and outside of assigned classes, assessing student work and performance, preparing syllabi and course materials, providing copies of syllabi and course materials to their supervisor on request, and assigning and submitting grades in accordance with established Eastern Michigan University schedules.

Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

Sociology: Applicants with an advanced degree in Sociology are preferred; however, individuals with degrees in related disciplines relevant to topical area may be considered. Experiences in teaching and research, education, and past employment related to the topical area will be considered. A completed MA or MS degree is a minimum requirement; applicants with a PhD might be given overall preference.

Anthropology: Applicants must have advanced degrees in Anthropology; at least an MA/MS for teaching the introductory courses, and a PhD and research experience relevant to their teaching interests to teach the more advanced levels.

Criminology: Applicants must have advanced degrees in Criminology or a related discipline; at least an MA/MS for teaching introductory courses and a PhD and research experience relevant to their teaching interests to teach the more advanced levels.

Appointments for each term are finalized by the Department Head in consultation with the Sociology, Anthropology, or Criminology Curriculum Committee.
