Research Technician II - Georgetown University Medical Center

Requirements

Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center's Biacore Molecular Interaction Shared Resource (BMISR) provides very specific highly technical services to its users, which are both internal Georgetown University investigators and outside users including academic and for-profit institutions. The demand for these services has been steadily increasing over the last two years, with current wait times exceeding 4-5 weeks.
The Research Technician executes experiments and performs daily maintenance to assist current faculty (Dr. Tiwari) for all the BMISR related tasks. S/he works with Dr. Tiwari for simultaneous usage of the two instruments available in the BMISR to promptly deliver research output. Under general supervision of Dr. Uren (Director of BMISR), the Research Technician has duties include but are not limited to:
  • Prepares samples and buffers for Biacore instruments, performing weekly and monthly maintenance.
  • Runs Biacore experiments, performs data analysis, and prepares detailed written reports for users.
  • Conducts standard molecular biology experiments like SDS-PAGE and western blotting, protein purification, and cell culture.
  • Prepares invoices, orders supplies and keeps good record of the orders, maintains log books, and prepares a monthly log of completed orders for billing.
  • Follows guidance from as well as coordinates with Dr. Tiwari for overall smooth functioning of BMISR.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors' degree in biological sciences or equivalent
  • Some hands-on experience in a molecular or cellular biology laboratory
  • Ability to maintain good record keeping and to learn new techniques

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of protein purification and standard molecular biology experiments
  • Experience with Surface Plasmon Resonance technology
