The mission of BEAM, Stanford Career Education is to empower students to cultivate personalized networks that shape their professional journey. We connect undergraduate, Master's, and PhD students to people, resources, and opportunities that help them define and pursue meaningful work.

Within BEAM, Career Catalysts is BEAM's Diversity team. Our mission is to ensure that Stanford's students from diverse communities feel heard, supported, and included in everything that BEAM does. Our team creates connections aimed at providing universal access to opportunity, and engages students, faculty and staff in critical thinking and awareness around the relationship between career and identity. Regardless of a student's combination of identities and experiences, we are working to ensure that they feel like they belong.


Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Career Education and Associate Director of Career Catalysts, the Assistant Director of Career Catalysts is responsible for increasing opportunities and access for underrepresented and marginalized student populations, with a special focus on professional development and early career pathways. It combines working directly with students and promotes Diversity and Inclusion priorities through partnerships with stakeholders.


As Catalysts, we encourage students to learn by doing. We believe that students gain greater clarity about their future possibilities through a cycle of experimentation and reflection. We accomplish our work through providing opportunities for networking, experiential education, and professional development.


Your Responsibilities:


Program Management

  • Create opportunities for professional development, and greater access to opportunities for students from underrepresented and/or marginalized communities.

  • Facilitate students' career exploration and networking through experiential education programs, including events, job shadowing, and other options.

  • Develop and implement programming, with an emphasis on early career pathways.

  • Analyze participation data, in order to make key decisions about program changes and enhancements that are data-driven.

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for engaging young alumni, within their first year of graduating—helping to ensure that recent alums have a successful launch into their career field.

  • Manage, evaluate, analyze, and grow the Stanford Alumni Mentoring (SAM) program. Analyze usage of SAM among First Gen and underrepresented minority groups and create action steps and initiatives to ensure students and recent graduates are supported in their career journey.

  • Train and supervise student workers, in order to execute programming initiatives.

Program Outreach

  • Manage outreach programs, and relationships with external community and university liaisons.

  • Develop content (i.e. seminars, workshops, presentations, webinars) to increase student engagement and help to scale programming.

  • Provide opportunity canvassing by researching pipeline programs and other opportunities that would be beneficial to students.

Teamwork

  • Collaborate in departmental initiatives, as prioritized by overall BEAM strategy.

  • Work with Associate Director to ensure that initiatives offer meaningful learning for students, as well as a worthy experience for alums.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:


  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant work experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Organizational abilities—able to keep track of multiple projects simultaneously, and exhibit independent judgment

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents in a complex system

  • Demonstrated experience in coaching/advising and training

  • Creativity and the ability to ideate and prototype frequently



In addition, our preferred requirements include:


  • Master's degree in Education, Student Affairs, or related field is a plus

  • Entrepreneurial, creative, and innovative spirit; comfort with change, ambiguity, and risk in a fast-paced environment.

  • Deep understanding of diversity related concepts (equity, inclusion, access, underrepresented and marginalized communities, allyship, power and privilege)

  • Familiarity with diversity & inclusion issues as they relate to career.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the student experience in a University setting.

  • Organizational abilities—able to keep track of multiple projects simultaneously and exhibit independent judgment.

  • Experience and comfort with technology, social media, and digital communication.

  • Skilled at public speaking and the development of presentations

  • Demonstrated passion and aptitude for cultivating connections, program development and execution, group facilitation and engagement.

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents in a complex system.
