This Area Director provides front-line leadership and direction to a residence area housing between 345-570 entrepreneurship and business residents. Specifically responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive residence education program ensuring residential student communities at the College are safe, inclusive, and educationally sound living environments; participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive residence education program and resident assistant program that enhances students' personal, social, and intellectual growth and contributes to student learning outside of the classroom experience; and further developing their understanding of residence education and housing through unique supervision, management, and project oversight for a specialized student population.
Babson employs four Area Directors with different areas of focus. These positions include:

Area Director, Lower Campus (1)
Overseeing approximately four residence halls this Area Director has approximately 345 first year residents and supervises thirteen Resident Assistants. This area is comprised of traditional style residence halls and houses a number of our Living/Learning programs.

Area Director, Lower Campus (2)
Overseeing approximately two traditional style residence halls this Area Director has approximately 365 primarily first year residents with a small number of upper division students. This Area Director supervises ten Resident Assistants and this area houses our LGBTQ+ Neighborhood.

Area Director, Middle Campus
Overseeing approximately six residence halls/complexes this Area Director has approximately 450 upper division residents living in suite and traditional style communities. This Area Director supervises one graduate-level Assistant Area Director and twenty Resident Assistants. This area houses the Sophomore Leadership Community, and Special Interest Housing including Fraternity and Sorority Life communities.

Area Director, Upper Campus
Overseeing approximately five residence halls/complexes this Area Director has approximately 570 upper division and graduate residents, and supervises one graduate-level Assistant Area Director and nineteen Resident Assistants. This area houses traditional residence halls, suites, and apartments including numerous Special Interest Housing communities.
  • Provides direct supervision and feedback to a staff of between ten and twenty undergraduate Resident Assistants and one Head Resident Assistant (HRA) (Middle and Upper Campus Area Directors each supervise one graduate-level Assistant Area Director). This includes guidance with residential programming, community building, intentional learning opportunities, and facilitation of weekly staff meetings.
  • Assists the Director in creating a comprehensive residential experience for student organizations on campus through the Special Interest Housing process, Living Learning Programs, and theme communities.
  • Supports Housing Office with move-in, move-out, and room change processes; coordinates and monitors student billing for residence hall and community damages for their assigned area; and management of the data entered into damage billing system.
  • Conducts regular community walk-throughs and effectively partners with the Facilities Services department.
  • Provides support and resources to students experiencing transition, personal, or mental health challenges; makes referrals as necessary.
  • Assists students in managing roommate relationships, including mediations and expectation setting.
  • Supports and assists students in the resolution of various issues, including addressing community standards violations and making appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Plans and implements a comprehensive area/building wide programming schedule to meet student needs and ensures a safe and inclusive living environment
  • Serves as an administrative hearing officer.
  • Co-leads and implements at least one key departmental program or process such as RA Selection, RA Appreciation, RA Training, and RA In-Service.
  • Manages hall opening and closing for assigned area which includes managing the early arrival and extension requests for assigned area.
  • Serves on departmental, divisional, and campus wide committees and projects as assigned.
  • Serves as a member of the crisis team as an Administrator On-call member; serve on-call a minimum of 10 weeks an academic year and respond at any time if called to assist in any campus crisis response. Respond to and/or assist with student and campus emergencies/crises; work closely with Dean On-call to support recommended actions; work with local hospital staff to assess students' status; conduct necessary follow-up with Public Safety, local agencies, and/or parents and staff as needed; assist with implementation of emergency response plans and actions.
  • Attends weekly Residence Education staff meetings; Student Affairs divisional meetings; hearing officer meetings; on-call meetings; and any other meeting pertinent to the position and/or position responsibilities.
  • Potential opportunity for graduate student staff supervision.
  • Potential opportunity to facilitate an FYS Class (reviewed annually).
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Education Requirements:

Minimum Level of Education Required Bachelor's Degree required

Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:

  • At least one-year full-time residence life/residence education experience preferred.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination and training in compliance with OSHA regulations; must maintain both throughout time in the position.
  • Must have knowledge and experience working with upper-class level undergraduate students.
  • Must have program management experience.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with a diverse student body, faculty, staff and other constituents.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Envisions and proposes new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; takes thoughtful risks; and accepts new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
  • Anticipates and embraces change; demonstrates willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
  • Must have previous supervision and/or advising experience.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a 12-month, full-time, live-in position
  • Required to live in provided on-campus furnished housing
  • Serves as a member of the administrator on-call staff
Additional Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Understanding of and commitment to principles of social justice and inclusion
