Job Summary

The Department of Accounting is seeking to establish a pool of qualified applicants for future, part-time adjunct faculty appointments.  

Major/essential duties

  • Provide instruction at the undergraduate level
  • Teach up to 6 semester credit hours
  • Candidates with a specialized degree in taxation; a combination of degrees in accounting/taxation and law; or terminal degree in accounting or a closely related field may teach graduate coursework
  • Prepare syllabi and update course materials
  • Advise and/or mentor undergraduate students
  • Develop curriculum for new and/or existing undergraduate programs
  • Deliver instruction both online and/or on any of the university campuses (Commerce or Dallas-area)
  • Teach (as needed) during the day and/or in the evening
  • Work cooperatively with others in the department, college, university, profession and community
  • Contribute to the facilitation of a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and ability to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds

Required education and experience

  • MSA or MBA degree with an emphasis in Accounting from an AACSB accredited university or a combination of graduate degrees in law and accounting from an AACSB accredited program
  • At least 18 hours of graduate level accounting
  • At least 2-years of experience working as an accountant for a public accounting firm, industry, or with a governmental entity
  • One or more of the following designations: CPA, CFE, CIA, CMA, EA, or CFF
  • Commitment to effective teaching
  • Good written and oral communication skills

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Industry experience is highly preferred
  • Experience with a diverse student body in a multicultural settings
  • Experience teaching classes online courses or in a hybrid format
  • Experience engaging students with synchronous and asynchronous communication in an online learning environment
