This is a full-time, benefits eligible, at will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.
The position of Associate Director of Residential Education reports directly to the Director of Residential Education and is responsible for supervision of the Residence Hall Coordinators, crisis management, budget planning, research, and facilities planning.
The position supervises three to five full-time professional employees in performing their job duties as members of the residence hall staff for a residential population of between 7000-8000 students. The position is also responsible for behavioral control and contract enforcement processes for four to six residence halls, which are growth-producing and encourage individual student responsibility for behavior within the residence hall community.
The position provides departmental oversight and implementation of large campus wide programming, including Welcome Week and Aztec Nights. In collaboration with the Director of Residential Education, they plan, budget, collaborate with various campus offices and begin the contracting process for these campus wide events. In addition, the position is responsible for the development and coordination of ongoing residential programs and workshops focused on diversity, social justice and civic engagement.
They work closely with residential staff and student leaders to ensure a balanced program regarding these issues (i.e. Affinity Groups, OneSDSU programming, the Diversity Awareness Certificate (DAC) program, community service trips, etc.). They also assist with the organization (including preparation, publicity, staffing, evaluation, etc.) of the Journey to a Shared Humanity and REO Cares programs.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,834 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, College Student Development or related field.
- Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in a residential education environment.
- At least one year of previous management and supervision of full-time, professional residence hall staff.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
- Diversity training and education experience.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Experience working with sophomore student populations.
- Freshmen transition and identity development teaching experience.
- Previous large-scale program development and implementation.
