Responsible for overall management of day-to-day operations of the Office of Disability Services, including the coordination of accommodations and services for students, staff, faculty and visitors with disabilities and supports the overall strategic objectives of the department. Manages, coordinates and facilitates programs, resources and procedures for students with disabilities that is consistent with all applicable laws and regulations.

Description of Duties

•Under general supervision from the Director of Disability Services, manages the day-to-day departmental activities, including provision of accommodations and services as well as planning and monitoring the achievement of departmental goals.
•Assists in the design, implementation and evaluation of departmental programs and initiatives; identifies and communicates best practices in the provisions of services to students, faculty, and staff with disabilities.
•Designs and implements a wide variety of outreach activities to increase awareness of the Office of Disability Services, including campus and community events; drafts brochures, letters, agendas, and contracts.
•Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations associated with and/or receiving benefit from the program.
•Participates in the preparation and administration of the program budget for assigned area; submits budget recommendations and monitors expenditures.
•Maintains records and develops reports concerning new and ongoing programs and program effectiveness, as needed.
•Coordinates and oversees programs to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified departmental objectives.
•Develops and supervises the implementation of multiple projects or programs.
•Participates in budget planning and is responsible for controlling expenditures in accordance with budget allocations for the program.
•Assists in the preparation and development of grant proposals.
•Coordinates long and short term programs, including performing feasibility studies and estimating the cost of the program.
•Reviews program records and reports of activities and recommends modifications to methods or procedures as required.
•May plan, develop, organize, and coordinate research and survey designs.
•Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars related to the program’s mission and goals; represents department in official functions.
•Provides ongoing staff development, on site demonstrations and field based experiences related to project or program.
•Conducts formal training or gives instruction regarding program policies and procedures.
•May coordinate and oversee tutorial, counseling, teaching, and/or training activities of the program.
•Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education

Master’s degree from an accredited university in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, psychology, social work, special education or a related field.

Required Experience

•Two (2) years of work experience with students with disabilities; or
•Four (4) years of work experience with students with disabilities with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, psychology, social work, special education, or a related field.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
