Job Description Summary

The Programmer Analyst is responsible for activities relating to the software development life cycle and SQL reporting. This includes systems analysis, design, programming, end user testing/training, documentation, and support for the university SQL reporting tools, and related technologies. While this position typically works normal business hours, early mornings, nights or weekends may be required for resolution of production related issues or to assist with system implementations/upgrades.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title.

  • Provide SQL reporting support for the university which includes data extracted from administrative software systems such as: legacy and future ERP and Cloud Based Systems
  • Provide expertise in detecting, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for SQL related issues
  • Provide SQL and SQL reporting support to ensure the appropriate, efficient, and comprehensive use of system software
  • Assist department and data managers in maintaining data integrity of shared databases
  • Work collaboratively with users on projects to enhance customer use and reporting from applications.
  • Define business requirements, design and reporting solutions through system analysis and programming, facilitate user testing, coordinate with ERP and Cloud Administrators for all production custom software installs, and perform post-implementation support and roll out activities
  • Provide documentation of processes, procedures, and problem resolution following departmental procedures
  • Develop skills with new technologies required to stay current with applications support needs
  • Cultivate positive and productive relationships with other departments and demonstrate creativity in recommending solutions to user problems to enhance and streamline their processes
  • Attend Users’ Group meetings, workshops, and training sessions for job related functions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and three to five years systems analysis, reporting and programming experience or a combination of education and experience totaling 6 years
  • Minimum three years’ experience in SQL reporting (higher education environment is preferred)
  • Experience with SSRS, SSIS and related reporting and data analysis tools (ex: Tableau or Power BI)
  • Demonstrated experience with structured programming & query languages
  • Broad knowledge of troubleshooting in resolving a variety of complex user problems
  • Must possess an understanding of and a commitment to, the university mission and core values
