Kenneth W. Freeman College of Management

Open-Rank, Tenure-Track Position in Management: Organization Studies

Bucknell University's Kenneth W. Freeman College of Management seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to join the Management and Organizations (MORS) Department in Fall 2020. The successful candidate will have a scholarly background in organizational management with a progressive approach to the field and a recognition of its importance for all types of organizations. Further, the successful candidate will understand and value education in the liberal arts, subscribe to the teacher-scholar model, and demonstrate an ability to work successfully with a diverse student body. We will consider outstanding candidates at all ranks, with rank being commensurate with experience.

Applicants should demonstrate a program of high-quality, innovative research in the candidate's area of expertise within management (e.g., organizational ethics, organizational behavior, strategic management, public and non-profit management, entrepreneurship, etc.). The extent of the record should be commensurate with the length of the candidate's tenure in academia. The College expects tenure-track faculty to make significant and creative intellectual contributions to their fields.

The Freeman College of Management believes that an education that combines technical skills and deep intellectual exploration is the best preparation for thoughtful and capable leaders. We seek faculty members capable of contributing to this mission.
  • A record of excellence in undergraduate teaching is required. Freeman College faculty are encouraged to teach in ways that actively engage students in deep learning, critical thought, and the development of innovative insights. Candidates must also be committed to inclusive pedagogies.
  • One course the incoming faculty member is likely to teach is MGMT 302 The Stakeholder Organization, which generally combines stakeholder management, organizational ethics, and social issues in management topics.
  • We will consider any background suitable for teaching courses in organizational studies; however, we will be particularly interested in candidates whose teaching experience and/or scholarly record lends itself to teaching in the areas of (in alphabetical order) B corporations or other social enterprises; corporate governance; entrepreneurship; environmental, health, and safety management; impact investing and/or microfinance; non-governmental organizations and/or activist organizations; organizational forms; and/or triple-bottom-line reporting and performance management.
  • An array of undergraduate teaching opportunities exist beyond courses in the major, including foundation seminars for first-year students; off-campus educational experiences in the U.S. or abroad; team-taught, “interdisciplinary perspectives” courses; residential college courses; and others.
  • The teaching load is five courses per year.

Faculty members in the Freeman College of Management serve as both formal and informal advisors to our students. Our student body is becoming more diverse, so our new colleague must express a convincing dedication to mentoring a diverse array of students. In addition, the MORS Department is interested in encouraging students to pursue careers beyond the mainstream, so we would like our colleague to be interested in thinking outside that box as well.

Qualified candidates will have completed the Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Management fields such as Organizational Behavior, Strategic Management, Business Ethics, Human Resource Management, or related fields such as Public Management, Organizational Sociology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and similar. ABDs will be considered with the requirement that they complete their doctoral degree before their second year at Bucknell. Experienced candidates may negotiate a shortened tenure clock. Although not strictly required, full-time organizational or managerial experience is highly desirable. We are eager to receive applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education. Salary is AACSB-competitive and commensurate with experience.

To Apply

To complete the application process, visit our on-line application system at http://careers.bucknell.edu. Complete applicant files must include a cover letter, current vita, evidence of teaching effectiveness, a statement of teaching philosophy (addressing, among other things, the candidate's commitment to diversity and inclusion), and a research statement. Only formal applications received via Bucknell's online system will be accepted.

Applications will be reviewed beginning in July 2019; application reviews will continue until the position is filled. Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the Academy of Management Meetings in August 2019; preliminary interviews with candidates not attending the Meetings will be conducted via Skype.
