Position Summary:

The Georgia Center for Assessment (GCA) is responsible for developing items and assessments for various projects throughout the year. We are seeking subject matter experts to write and review educational assessment items. Item Writers first participate in a GCA led item development training course, and must demonstrate sufficient competency within the training environment and on a qualifying item writing assignment prior to beginning work on an item development contract or cycle. During training, trainees will learn the principles of assessment best practice and practice writing and reviewing in small groups. Finally, all trainees must complete a performance task. Trainees will write a set of sample items for review. Upon approval of the items, item writers will be qualified to participate in future development projects.

GCA will be training and hiring item writers periodically throughout the year. The position requires item writers who are college graduates to write and review assessment items within the writer’s expertise. Item writers who complete one development project in good standing will be eligible for additional development projects.

The development projects are primarily for K-12 assessments in the subject areas of English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Item types include selected, constructed, and extended response, as assigned.
Location: Athens and Gwinnett.
