The University of Denver, Sturm College of Law (Denver Law) is a top 70 law school with a nationally ranked clinical program. Rooted in innovative experiential learning opportunities, our curriculum is global in its perspective and our faculty includes some of the most accomplished legal scholars in the nation. Opening first as a legal aid dispensary in 1904, the University of Denver was the first law school in the country to offer law students academic credit for representing underserved clients. Today the Clinical Programs provides second and third-year law students the opportunity to refine their lawyering skills while providing quality representation to underserved and under-resourced clients. Clinic students are responsible for their client matters and handle all aspects of client representation under faculty supervision. Our goal is to graduate compassionate and rigorous attorneys who are committed to resolving legal problems effectively and responsibly.
The Community Economic Development (CED) Clinic is the transactional law clinic at the Denver Law. Serving clients since 2011, the CED Clinic was recently awarded a three-year grant from the Colorado Lawyer Trust Account Foundation (COLTAF) to support the CED Clinics work in three new and critically important areas: supporting rural entrepreneurship efforts, technologies created to advance social justice, and educational materials explaining the intersections between small businesses ownership and immigration law. The COLTAF award is a grant of restricted funds designated exclusively for community redevelopment legal assistance.
Position Summary
The University of Denver Sturm College of Law invites applications for a one-year clinical teaching COLTAF fellowship in the of our Community Economic Development (CED) Clinic. The CED Clinic is a transactional law clinic that provides a diverse range of community development and business law services to nonprofit corporations, community organizations, social enterprises, and small business owners. The COLTAF Fellow will work with the CED Clinic Director to support the work funded by the COLTAF grant. This position is part-time. The duration of the appointment is one year, with possibility for a renewal depending on funding availability and performance in the position. The COLTAF Fellow will not only participate in course design but will have the opportunity to develop scholarly interests and credentials, be integrated into the intellectual life of the law school and the larger University, and attend faculty scholarly workshops and mentoring sessions.
Fellowship salary: Salary is competitive and based on years of legal experience. This is a one year, twelve-month appointment, part-time position that begins in July 2019. The individual will be paid monthly and the position is non-benefited.
Essential Functions
Required qualifications
- JD or equivalent from an ABA accredited law school.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Member of the Colorado Bar or able to gain admission by August 1, 2019 (Colorado permits faculty teaching in a clinical program to waive into the bar).

Work Schedule
Part-time, varies. Evenings and weekends as required.
