DESCRIPTION

The Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI), an organized research unit at UCSD, was established to provide education, training and infrastructure for clinical research in the San Diego area that encompasses four hospital systems, two universities and four biomedical research organizations. The mission of the ACTRI is to create an environment that advances health care through interactions between basic scientists, clinical investigators, community physicians, and patients.

Under direct supervision of the finance manager, the incumbent assists in financial management, administration, recharge, and reporting for the ACTRI. The incumbent resolves variances, identifies problems, formulates and makes recommendations in accordance with departmental, university, and agency regulations. Act as liaison with the Controller's office, Vice Chancellor Health Sciences Business Finance team, General Accounting, and other central departments. Assists and guides faculty and department support staff.

Works closely with the Principal Investigators (PIs)/Department Managers in reviewing and monitoring the fiscal status of funding sources including and making recommendations and offering solutions to resolve fiscal matters. Prepares regular reports and proposals accurately. Researches and learns to assess internal control process management needs to identify issues requiring attention and learns to process requiring reformulation. Assists in managing the budget and fiscal closing processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.

  • Acquiring ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize and perform basic financial analysis assignments. Ability to problem-solve and think critically and creatively.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

  • Proficiency using spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; broad service orientation and critical thinking skills and attention to detail. Under management guidance, uses organizational skills to multitask in a high volume environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Chemistry.
