Performs building maintenance and custodial services at Centennial School.

Accountabilities:
  1. Performs building maintenance and repair services.
    • Performs minor repair and maintenance as authorized by the Director.
    • Paints interior of building as required.
    • Performs minor plumbing repairs.
    • Removes extraneous dirt/markings from interior and exterior vertical/horizontal surfaces (walls, doors, floors).
    • Advises the Director and Business Manager on matters relating to mechanical equipment and/or building maintenance.
    • Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, ill students, alarms) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment.
  2. Performs custodial services.
    • Cleans and disinfects work areas using cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures.
    • Removes trash.
    • Vacuums and mops floors.
    • Cleans bathrooms and refills supplies (hand soap, toilet paper, and paper towel dispensers).
    • Maintains and monitors inventory of custodial supplies and equipment (e.g., cleaning solutions, paper products, restroom supplies, vacuums, mops, etc).
    • Performs major summer cleaning including removing classroom and office furniture and preparing the floors for waxing.
    • Assure safety during inclement weather to including shoveling of steps, salting entrances, and providing slip protection on wet floors.
    • Spot clean all classrooms, offices, and hallways.
  3. Building security
    • Lock and unlock building doors as instructed by the Director.
    • Secures school building and activates alarm system to ensure proper building security at all times.
    • Initiates designated pull-station for monthly fire drills.
    • Periodically inspects, or otherwise maintains awareness of, facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage.
    • Prepares facility for daily operations (e.g. disarming security systems, minor repairs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring school facilities are operational and safe for occupancy.
    • Report any needed major repairs or safety concerns to the Director.
  4. Repairs equipment
    • Performs minor repairs on equipment including but not limited to vacuum cleaners, washing machine, clothes dryer, kitchen stoves, etc.
  5. Coordinate recycling program
    • Maintains recycling containers in designated areas.
    • Works with student assistant.
    • Takes recycling items to the recycling center.
    • Takes items to be shredded to the recycling center.
  6. Performs other tasks as needed
    • Runs errands using school van.
    • Occasionally transports students in school vans.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.
    • Perfoms all duties as outlined in The Centennial School Handbook and Lehigh University Non-exempt Staff Guide.
    • Maintains inventory and request cleaning supplies and materials needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
    • Serves as a liaison with the Property Manager / Property Owner to ensure that needed repairs and improvements are completed as authorized by the Director.
    • Delivers various items (e.g. supplies, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing materials to the appropriate parties (as assigned).
    • Follow all safety standards and training guidelines throughout the performance of duties.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • 1-3 years of related work expereince is required
Special Considerations:
  • Periods of High Volume/Workload or Overtime as needed
  • Occasional Travel local travel for recycling; hardware store; Lehigh campus
  • This position is 60% effort working 22.5 hours per week. The shift is 6:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Monday through Friday
  • There is no severance associated with this position
