Under moderate supervision, performs routine and standard accounting functions such as preparing, posting, and balancing financial statements, records, documents and/or reports. May concentrate in some phase of accounting work such as student A/R, reconciliations, and financial statements.

Essential Duties Summary

Applies standard and specialized accounting principles, procedures, and practices to monitor, analyze and reconcile sub ledger accounts to the general ledger in compliance with University, federal and state accounting requirements. Interprets and analyzes financial data and transactions. Prepares accounting reports associated with student A/R, and other similar financial activities. Monitors and reviews accounting reports for accuracy and completeness. Reviews, prepares, and processes accounting transaction related entries of moderate complexity. Reconcile external invoices and charges posted to student accounts to ensure accuracy for payment and reporting purposes. Interacts with students, University personnel and external contacts such as federal and state government, funding sources and vendors to provide information. Conducts research analyses and special projects. Performs statistical analyses to determine accounting trends, estimates, and significant changes. Writes narrative reports to explain and document findings. Recommends and documents procedures to eliminate recurring reconciling discrepancies. May assist in audits or work with internal and external auditors. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Makes recommendations that affect policies, procedures and practices. Refers exceptions to policy and procedures to the supervisor.

Regular contact with others, including students, general public, visitors and University personnel. Purpose of contacts is to explain, clarify or interpret information. May handle confidential information and some complex matters.

Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills to ensure that customer requests or needs are met. Acknowledges and clarifies customer inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented and addressed.

Working/Environmental Conditions

Work is performed within routine office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions. Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location much of the time. Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects of light weight may be required.
