Information Technology Services is currently seeking applications for a Desktop Support Specialist; this role acts as the primary Apple Computer subject matter expert (SME) for Information Services and for Rhodes end-users. At the same time, this role will be adept enough in both Windows, Apples and other operating system environments to provide desktop support for the entire computer base on campus for a multidimensional user base consisting of faculty, staff, and students.Job Responsibilities:- Act as the primary Apple SME for Information Services and campus.- Configure computers for faculty and staff.- Design and administer security policies and profiles.- Apply software updates and patches.- Manage Anti-Virus protection for campus computers.- Troubleshoot software and hardware problems for desktop users.- Assist in maintenance of IS campus computer inventory.- Coordinate with Help Desk on desktop support requests and in creation of knowledge articles for user education.- Work closely with other IS desktop support staff to create commonalities of software and functionality on campus computers.- Provide support and training for Macintosh printing on campus.A minimum of three years' of experience in the field of information sciences, information technology, or library sciences. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Extensive familiarity with the Apple computer product line and mobile devices iPhones, iPads, iOS. Strong knowledge of desktop support concepts, best practices and procedures for both Windows and MacOS. Demonstration of customer-service skills, helpful attitude, and attention to detail. Proficiency with desktop and mobile hardware, software, operating systems, printers, and AV interfaces. Familiarity with the Help Desk ticketing systems, such as TOPdesk, is beneficial. Familiarity with JAMF, remote desktop management software for Apple computers, would be very beneficial. Knowledge of virtualized (VMWare) environments. Experience in a higher education IT support unit strongly preferred. Demonstrated customer service experience and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professional behaviors of helpfulness, respect, patience, and empathy. Rhodes’ students hold impressive academic and extracurricular credentials. The Class of 2024 has a mid-range SAT score of 1250-1400 and a mid-range ACT score of 27-33. 52% of the students of the class of 2024 ranked in the top 10% of their high school class.
