The UNC Asheville Student Accounts Office seeks to provide a high level of support to the University and its stakeholders that is competent, approachable, reliable, empathic, and responsive. The Student Accounts team is responsible for representing these pillars in both attitude and action.

The Student Accounts Technician/Cashier directly communicates with students and their families, providing information concerning tuition and fees, student billing, payment, registration, etc. This position is also responsible for receipting payments to the University and providing customer service to the campus community regarding the receipt and processing of those funds.

Duties of this position will include:

  • Communicating with students and the campus community in person, over the phone, and through email correspondence.
  • Posting charges for special programs and sending updated bills to students.
  • Maintaining collections process including generating collection letters and submitting accounts to collection agencies and monitoring repayment agreements.
  • Providing backup for the Cashier in receiving and recording student payments and University receipts, balancing receipt books, certifying receipts to the state, and processing bank deposits.
  • Reconciling bank accounts, student accounts, and general ledger funds.

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills

An Associate’s degree in business or accounting is preferred or equivalent combination of training and experience.

The preferred candidate is customer service oriented, demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, is highly proficient with computer software applications including MS Office and Google Applications, and is a proactive problem solver. The Cashier must be able to work independently with a high level of professionalism, be well organized, flexible, and be able to manage and meet demanding deadlines.

Candidates who have experience with the Ellucian Banner System and/or more than two years of cashier experience in higher education are strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate excels in:

  • Maintaining accuracy while processing large amounts of data.
  • Prioritizing tasks and manage workflow so that daily deadlines are met and reports are completed timely.
  • Receiving, accounting for and disbursing cash.
  • Maintaining, verifying, and coordinating cash accounting records from a variety of sources.

Work Schedule and Hours

Typically, 8:00a.m-5:00p.m. Monday-Friday. Some evening and weekend hours during peak periods.
