Job Id: 373 # of Openings: 1 ACADEMIC & INSTITUTIONAL TECHNOLOGY - INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER Responsibilities Reporting to the Classroom Lab & Academic Support Services (CLASS) manager, the Instructional Systems Engineer works collaboratively with other technical staff to support the specialized technology in classrooms, meeting rooms, and auditoriums. This includes designing and maintaining complex presentations systems and control equipment software and hardware used in these systems. Duties
  1. Design, install, maintain and upgrade network-enabled classroom presentations systems, audio visual control systems, and specialized instructional technology in classrooms and event spaces.
  2. Manage assigned projects to ensure a timely completion within budget and scheduling constraints. Enlist support from areas within and without AIT as needed. Maintain good communication with stakeholders
  3. Assist in the operations and maintenance of the distance learning and unified communications systems utilized for courses support and remote classrooms.
  4. Develop and maintain documentation for control system component configurations, system designs, technical procedures, and policies concerning presentation equipment in classrooms and auditoriums
  5. Develop and maintain programming and designs for classrooms, control systems, DSPs, and network-enabled media systems.
  6. Responsible for the overall standards, design and programming of classrooms technology installed by Wheaton staff and external vendors.
  7. Working collaboratively with the Service Desk, assist faculty, students and staff when they have issues utilizing the presentation equipment in a timely manner.
  8. Utilize Incident, Change and Problem Management to control the hardware and software in classrooms, as well as monitor troubleshooting efforts to address the resolution of issues affecting classrooms, computer, and conferencing technology.
  9. Vendor management for key systems and projects
  10. Maintain knowledge and skills in the developing areas of control and presentation technology
  11. Assist end users including train, orienting and supporting users in the use of technology systems.
  12. Compile regular reports, participate in staff meetings, and deliver presentations as requested.

  14. This position requires the employee to carry a cell phone.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in technical/project/academic field or equivalent
  2. Five years of experience in maintenance, configuration, and programming of classroom A/V systems.
  3. Proven experience configuring, operating and supporting video conferencing equipment
  4. Understanding of computers networks including VLAN functions, IP addressing, and topology. Be able to work collaboratively with the network and storage team on key issues.
  5. Thorough knowledge of the use and design of networked media equipment and control systems.
  6. Demonstrated diagnostic and problem solving skills in both hardware and software as it relates to presentation systems.
  7. High level of familiarity with current digital media standards, data projection, electronic annotation, signal switching, sound systems, lecture capture, digital signage, wireless integration (tablet devices, smart phone), network connectivity, control systems (Crestron, AMX, Extron),
  8. The ability to educate and communicate with a diverse client base about complex technology applications.
  9. Preferred Certifications: CTS, Crestron DMCE, Crestron Programming, and ITIL
  10. Must be able to work from a stepladder and lift 40 pounds.
  11. Driver license required to drive service vehicles when needed
