DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of Professor Kim Prather, play a leading role in the development of a microbial ecology research theme within CAICE. The incumbent will perform independent, original scientific research related to CAICE to better understand marine microbiology interactions with atmospheric chemistry. Organize and perform experiments with model systems to study microbial utilization and transformation of volatile organic compounds in surface waters.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of four (4) years of post-graduate research experience in the field of marine biology, microbiology and biogeochemistry.

  • Demonstrated experience in microbial oceanography, marine biogeochemistry and molecular ecology.

  • Strong ability to disseminate scientific information, including multiple publications in leading peer-reviewed journals and presentation at international scientific conferences.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as written and oral communication.

  • Proven ability to make independent scientific and logistical decisions pertaining to phases of funded projects, showing resourcefulness and judgment.

  • Demonstrated experience in collaborative research including work on multidisciplinary projects.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Required to travel Internationally and domestically to visit collaborating labs,and present results at conferences.
