Admissions Officer – Multicultural Recruitment, Duke University

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Duke seeks an Admissions Officer to join our team of admissions professionals. This job classification will be hired as Admissions Officer, Senior Admissions Officer, or Assistant Director depending on experience. The ideal candidate will be service-oriented and should possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and presentation skills as well as the ability to analyze data to inform decision making. We seek energetic candidates with a strong sense of initiative, the ability to work well independently and in a team, the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently, and the ability to effectively utilize the Admissions Office database(s).

The candidate should be prepared to be responsible for a full range of recruitment activities including: coordinating admissions recruitment activities to reach underrepresented populations, particularly Latinx students; planning Duke’s Latinx Student Recruitment Weekend; serving as an admissions liaison to Duke Latinx student groups; representing Duke University to students, parents, alumni, and high school counselors in a variety of settings; evaluating applications and participating in the selection process; planning on- and off-campus recruitment events; conducting on-campus information sessions to both large and small groups; working successfully with student volunteers; other duties/projects as assigned by the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions or other senior staff members. Admissions officers can expect to travel four to six weeks throughout the year.

Desired qualifications: Bachelor’s degree,excellent writing and public speaking skills, high energy, ability to articulate the benefits of a broad-based liberal arts and science and engineering education are required. Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred. Preference will be given to Duke graduates and/or applicants with prior admissions or college counseling experience, particularly those with experience working with underrepresented populations in a highly selective institution. Position requires weekends and extended hours, especially during the fall and from January through April. Good judgment, strict confidentiality, and the ability to work collegially in a deadline-driven environment are important. A valid driver’s license is required.
