Duties

This position assists pathologists in autopsy (systematic dissection) of animals including domestic and wild mammals, reptiles and birds for diagnostic purposes, as well as the general operation of the autopsy and biopsy services. Interaction with veterinary clinicians and students, and other New Bolton Center services is common. This position requires a collegial, detail-oriented individual who is not squeamish. In addition to assisting in dissection, responsibilities include tissue collection/disposal, processing tissues for further testing, data entry/data retrieval, and cleaning/upkeep of the postroom facilities and equipment. Additional responsibilities will include periodic courier service to laboratories on the New Bolton Center (NBC) Campus, NBC satellite facilities or local ‘outside’ laboratories within a 50-mile radius of NBC campus.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry or related field is required, and applicants having familiarity with domestic and/or wild animals will be preferred; and 0 to 1 year of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Prophylactic vaccination for Rabies Virus is also required (cost compensated by the laboratory). Applicants must be willing and able to drive a university-owned vehicle, to safely operate hand and power-tools (eg bow saw, commercial-grade band saw, mechanical hoist), and be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Work schedule – 9:00a – 5:00p with some flexibility. Position contingent upon funding.
