Job Summary

The instructor for Substance Abuse Counseling (SAC) Program reports directly to the Allied Health Department Chair. The primary duties of this position are coordination and supervision of the SAC Program, provide professional leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum, classroom instruction of SAC courses, and management of practicum experiences. Assignments may include day, evening, and/or online courses and summer overload. Required to participate in recruiting and promotional activities. Serve on assigned faculty committees, advise and recruit students, attend campus graduation ceremonies, participate in professional development activities, and work with the various administrative functions of the college. Continue professional development. Perform other related duties as required. This is a 9 month faculty position, tenure track, and includes benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in the field or closely related field (Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Addictions Counseling, or Mental Health) is required.
Applicant must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC).
At least three years non-teaching related work experience.
Ability to understand the teaching and evaluation methodologies used in the total instructional process.
Ability to work with little or no supervision.
High degree of communication skills, written and spoken.
Ability to deal with parents, students, faculty and staff in professional manner.
Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
Ability to promote the campus image.
Ability to follow established college policies and procedures.

Working Conditions: Normal classroom setting with some online courses. Practicum experiences are performed in a variety of settings. Some hazardous conditions may exist.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in the field or closely related field is preferred. Prefer 18 graduate hours in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health, Addictions Counseling, or closely related subject.
Knowledge of curriculum development.
Ability to evaluate programs and procedures.
College level teaching experience.
